About Our New Website

Welcome
Please join the Department of Visual Arts in celebrating the launch of this first phase of our website that is the result of vision and commitment on the part of those who made it happen. As educators, we have evaluated and assessed what we provide to students in our programs and present this website as a representation of our collective identity. We invite you to explore our department through our new online communications site.

Our site is designed to provide visitors with critical content and a moveable gallery of artwork. The visual feast on each page complements a wealth of cultural/campus information and practical academic guidance. To ensure accessibility for users whose vision is impaired, a white background with black and grey text provides legibility and open space to counterbalance the color saturation of the banner art. In addition to making the type easier to read, this clear visual space, like the walls of a gallery, enhances and unifies the overall design. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has generated guidelines for improving and creating accessible websites, which we will continue to incorporate.

While a wide range of users access our website, including prospective students, parents, university administrators, evaluators, peer institutions, funders, allied professionals, and employers, we especially want to welcome UMBC visual arts graduates and potential students. We want to hear from alumni and we want to feature them on our website. Current students can envision their own place in the arts and design community when they see our graduates working in various fields or running their own businesses.

Two graduates who operate their own studios in Baltimore have provided a great service to the Department of Visual Arts by creating this new website pro bono. With deep appreciation and pride, we thank Emily Wilson and Jason Rosenberg, who planned, designed, programmed, and managed this project over the last year. Their ongoing collaboration has generated a dynamic partnership resulting in a world-class website that benefits the department and UMBC as a whole.

We invite you to explore our programs, get inspired and visit with us!
