UMBC Honoring Academic Achievements of Faculty and Staff

October 1, 1996 - In recognition of all faculty and staff academic achievements during the past two years, the Graduate School, along with President Freeman Hrabowski and Provost Jo Ann Argersinger, will host two special events during 1996-97.

The first of these events, to be held on October 9 at the UMBC Technology Center, will recognize the exceptional achievement associated with sponsored projects. UMBC's external funding for sponsored projects grew from $32 million in FY-1995 to $36 million in FY-1996. This level of external support is essential to the flexibility and creativity that drive a vibrant honors university. More than 150 grant recipients, and their supp ort staff, will be recognized on October 9.

A second reception is being planned for Spring 1997, to honor faculty and staff who have made scholarly and creative contributions beyond those associated with external funding. Individuals who have published books during the past two years, held major pe rformances or shows, or contributed in significant scholarly ways to their disciplines, fields, and professions will be honored at this event.

"The campus is fortunate to have such productive and engaged faculty and staff, and we take pleasure in acknowledging their important contributions. UMBC's national and international reputations are enhanced through their work."

-President Freeman A. Hrabowski, III
