C-YA Networking Social at The Commons

Enjoy a break from the office or graduate school and come see what's new at your alma mater. The Chapter of Young Alumni (C-YA) welcomes you back for a happy hour in UMBC's brand new student center, The Commons. There will be refreshments and door prizes, and all alumni receive a coupon for one free drink. Free.

"Sweetheart Swing" Dinner and Dance
February 2, 7:30-11:30 p.m.
The Commons Skylight Room

Valentine's Day is on the horizon. Grab your sweetie and come to the Alumni Association's second annual Sweetheart Swing, featuring a buffet dinner, swing dance and salsa lessons, a DJ, gifts, door prizes, special activities, a cash bar and more. The event is is hosted by some of our UMBC alumni sweethearts--couples who met and fell in love while at UMBC.

Athletic Hall of Fame
February 9, 4 p.m.

UMBC is pleased to announce the inductees for its 13th Annual Athletic Hall of Fame and invites you to honor their accomplishments. This year's inductees are Mike Meyer '94, golf; Darius Taylor '91, soccer; David Bobb '97, track and field; Jim Pfrogner, track and field head coach, 1971-2000. Advance reservations are required. Alumni Reception in Annapolis

Life Sciences Career Management Sessions
February 21, 6-8 p.m.
UMBC Technology Center

UMBC and Snelling Lab & Tech invite all alumni to participate in a series of career management sessions involving careers inthe life sciences. The February session will discuss interviewing and negotiating salary and benefits.

IFSM Backpack to Briefcase Speakers
February 27, 1-2 p.m.

The UMBC Alumni Association, The Shriver Center and IFSM Council of Majors will host an IFSM Backpack to Briefcase Luncheon. We invite all IFSM alumni to volunteer to speak. This informal luncheon is designed for current students and alumni to network and share advice about careers in the information technology field.

English Career Panel and Department Reception
March 6, 6-8 p.m.

Join fellow alumni, faculty and students to discuss career options for English graduates. A panel of successful professional alumni will speak about their careers and offer advice for getting into professional positions with an English degree. Alumni Night at Camden Yards

Orioles vs. Yankees is the hottest ticket in Baltimore! Join 250 UMBC alumni and friends at the opening week series against the New York Yankees. Prior to the game, see your former classmates at our pre-game party at Camden Yards. The party includes a picnic-style dinner, unlimited soft drinks and beer. Cost: TBD.

Life Sciences Career Management Sessions
April 18, 6-8 p.m.
UMBC Technology Center

UMBC and Snelling Lab & Tech invite all alumni to participate in the last in a series of career management sessions involving careers in the life sciences. April's session will feature the results of a survey of leading biotech companies on future hiring trends and current recruiting needs.

Alumni Awards Reception and Ceremony
April 25, 6-9 p.m.
B & O Railroad Museum

Connect with fellow alumni, faculty and students and celebrate the achievements of UMBC alumni at the annual awards reception and ceremony. The Association will award more than $42,000 in scholarships to current UMBC students. This exciting event is hosted by President Freeman Hrabowski and the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Free (drinks not included).

Reggae Cruise
June 8, 8-11 p.m.
Aboard the Clipper City

Set sail on a three-hour party cruise. We've got a live band, plenty of munchies and an open bar for soft drinks, beer and rum punch. The tall ship, the Clipper City, departs from Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The Salisbury University Alumni Association will join us again this year. Cost TBD.

UMBC Alumni Day in Ocean City
August 17
Ocean City, MD

Did you know that the mayor of Ocean City is an alumnus? James Mathias '74 will host a day of activities in the sun. Spend the day on the beach and later in the afternoon we'll gather at Seacrets, a favorite hangout in Ocean City. You must register in advance for free cover charge at Seacrets.

Freshman Legacy Scholarship
Is your child coming to UMBC? The Alumni Association is offering two one-year scholarships of $1,000 each for the 2002-2003 academic year. Entering freshmen, who are children of UMBC alumni, are eligible to apply. For full consideration, contact the scholarship office by March 1, 2002.
