1970

Mimi Dietrich, American studies, is a quilter and author and has been elected to the UMBC Alumni Association Board of Directors. She resides in Baltimore with her husband, Robert Dietrich, biological sciences ’70.

1971

Robert Seasonwein, history, received the U.S. Department of State’s Franklin Award for his exceptional initiative in arranging a meaningful interchange between the Jewish community and members of the congressional delegations during the NATO Summit. He is resident legal advisor for the U.S. Department of Justice and resides in Washington, D.C. with his wife, Diana.

1972

Melvin Sharoky, biological sciences, is president and CEO of Somerset Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and resides in Tampa, Fla. with his wife, Alexias.

Judith (Ring) Breen, history, is a media specialist for Chapelgate Christian Academy and resides in Eldersberg, Md.

1973

Thomas Dewberry, history, is chief administrative law judge for the State of Maryland. He resides with his wife, Jamie, in Baltimore.

James Milani, political science, is director of administrative affairs in the UMBC College of Engineering. He has been elected to the UMBC Alumni Association Board of Directors and resides in Ellicott City, Md.

Phillip Phillips, biological sciences, is medical director for the Maryland State Police and resides with his wife, Debra, in Finksburg, Md.

1974

Carol Hyman, philosophy, is a senior media relations representative for the University of California-Berkeley and resides in San Rafael, Calif. with her husband, Jerry.

Maryland (Minton) Watson, modern languages and linguistics, is chair of the foreign language department for Anne Arundel County Public Schools. She resides in Pasadena, Md. with her husband, Wesley.

1975

Anthony Hunstiger, American studies, is in private practice as a rehabilitation counselor and resides in Honolulu, Hi.

1976

James Roberts, biological sciences, is general counsel for the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. He resides with his wife, Brenda, in Madison, Wisc.

1977

George Thomas Grace, sociology, owns a cosmetic surgery practice in the Baltimore area. He specializes in breast augmentation and reconstruction. He resides in Baltimore.

Richard Ievoli, M.A. psychology, has been elected chair of the Professional Psychology Board of the Pennsylvania Psychological Association. He is the clinical director for Carelink Community Support Services and resides in Norristown, Pa.

Ruth (Pumphrey) Raup, modern languages and linguistics and M.A. instructional development systems ’93, is a human resources generalist for American Wood Moulding, LLC. She was recently profiled in Who’s Who in America and resides in Linthicum, Md. with her son, Joshua.

1978

Robert Hartge, history, is an administrative assistant at SPECS Chemical Services and an academic support services assistant at the Johns Hopkins University Columbia Center. He resides in Columbia, Md. with his wife, Barbara.

1979

Gary Brooks, history, was appointed president and CEO of the Baltimore Community Development Financing Corporation and resides in Baltimore with his wife, Karen.

Mark Givarz, biological sciences, is senior analyst for SBC Communications and resides with his wife, Alyce, in Ballwin, Mo.

1980

Deborah Dawkins, English, joined Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage as a sales associate. She is co-owner of Hilly’s Garden Center, Inc. and resides in Denton, Md.

1981

Craig Linthicum, economics, is president and CEO of Black Oak Technology Solutions and resides with his wife, Debbie, and children, Erika, Will and Carly, in Salisbury, Md.

David Pfarr, biology and M.S. biology ‘96, is a scientist for MedImmune, Inc. and has been elected to the UMBC Alumni Association Board of Directors. He resides in Darnestown, Md. with his wife, Judy.

Virginia (Solano) Wagner, modern languages and linguistics, received her master’s degree in education and guidance counseling from Bowie State University. She has been a Spanish teacher in Anne Arundel County Public Schools for 20 years and resides in Glen Burnie, Md. with her husband, Harry.

1982

Don Madison, visual and performing arts, is director of photography at TV6 in Philadelphia and resides in Collegeville, Pa.

1983

John Holloway, emergency health services, is a fire and emergency medical services lieutenant for the town of Ocean City and resides with his wife, Kimberly, and children, Brooks and Brennan, in Berlin, Md.

Lawrence Stone, visual and performing arts, is program music director for Sweetwater Union High School District and resides in San Diego, Calif.

1984

Greta (Sperry) Felter, sociology, is an income maintenance specialist for the Department of Social Services. She resides with her husband, Alan, in Baltimore.

Robert Marrero, Ph.D. biological sciences, is senior staff scientist and section manager for biological defense at Motorola Life Sciences. He resides in Pasadena, Calif.

1985

Lee (Lenker) Baber, interdisciplinary studies, is an art, computer, speech and drama teacher for the Rockingham County Public School System. She resides with her husband, Calvin, in Fort Valley, Va.

1986

Stephen Carrington, sociology, is a program analyst for the National Institutes of Health in the National Cancer Institute and resides in Elkridge, Md.

1987

Paula (Roberson) Gray, psychology, is yardmaster for CSX Transportation and resides in Pasadena, Md.

1988

Bennett Moe, visual and performing arts, is a senior account executive at Mapquest Creative Mapping Solutions and resides in Columbia, Md.

Lisa (Parr) Sun, modern languages and linguistics, received her master’s degree in education from the University of Texas, El Paso. She is a teacher for the Lubbock Independent School District and resides in Lubbock, Texas with her husband, William.

1989

Angela Adams, social work, is deputy director of housing voucher operations for the Department of Housing Preservation and Development in New York City. She resides in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Jeffrey Gladden, engineering, is principal engineer in the development engineering section of the nuclear products division of BWX Technologies. He resides in Rustburg, Va.

Shawn Robinson, information systems, is technical project manager at Verizon Communications, Inc. and resides in Baltimore with his wife, Roselin (Dunn) Robinson, visual and performing arts ’01.

1990

Brian Buczynski, computer science, is senior programmer for Overtime Sports and resides in Pasadena, Md. with his wife, Laura (Nelson) Buczynski, English ’90. She is a product marketing specialist for Achievement Technologies, Inc.

Heidi Giles, modern languages and linguistics, completed her master’s degree in education from the University of North Carolina in December 2002. She is manager of regulatory procedures and publications for Southwest Airlines and resides in Dallas, Texas.

James Zerr, modern languages and linguistics, is production manager at Eagle Publishing and resides in Ellicott City, Md. with his wife, Lisa.

1991

Debra Borden, economics, is partner in the law firm of Board, Borden & Anders, LLC and resides in Frederick, Md.

Vanessa Kauffman, modern languages and linguistics, is head of the public relations department of the Wildlife Habitat Council. She is also a published writer and resides in Chevy Chase, Md.

Clarence Lowman, emergency health services, resides in Chambersburg, Md. with his wife, Karla Lowman, biochemistry and molecular biology ’94. She joined Keystone Health Center as a family practice physician in November 2002.

Maureen McCormick, English, is coordinator of student and academic programs for the Honors College at UMBC. She resides in Columbia, Md.

Mona West, information systems, is owner, trainer and instructor at Body by Mona, Inc. and resides in Temple Hills, Md.

1992

Kathryn Barrett-Gaines, Africana studies, completed a Ph.D. in African history at Stanford University. She was a professor of African history at Xavier University and now resides in Uganda.

Patricia (Eyring) Keene, economics, is a family services supervisor for the State of Maryland. She has received her master’s degree in social work and her licensed graduate social worker license. She resides in Baltimore with her husband, Gregory.

Samir Mittal, mechanical engineering, is senior staff engineer at Seagate Technology and resides in Longmont, Colo. with his wife, Shraddha.

Kristopher Mosby, visual and performing arts, is a visual information specialist for Voice of America. He resides in Bowie, Md. with his wife, Ashelyn, and daughter, Keniya.

Denise (Mesler) Ruddick, psychology, is human resources manager for Information Network, Inc. and resides with her husband, Daniel, in Glen Burnie, Md.

Gregory Scace, engineering, is a member of the U. S. Sailing Team with his wife, Caroline. The couple is campaigning to represent the United States in the 2004 Olympics. They live in Gaithersburg, Md.

1993

G. Scott Reed, English, was promoted to director of communications at Performax and resides in Baltimore.

1994

Sari Benmeir, chemistry, opened her own law practice in Durango, Colo. and resides in Boulder, Colo.

Lyle Hockenberry, geography, works at the Jersey Shore Medical Center and resides with his wife, Gloria Hockenberry, economics ’95, and son, Andrew, in Howell, N.J. Gloria is a contracts manager for the Titan Corporation.

Karla Lowman, biochemistry and molecular biology, see Clarence Lowman ’91.

Suja Varghese, psychology, is an attorney for the Disability Entitlement Advocacy Program and has been elected to the UMBC Alumni Association Board of Directors. She resides in Baltimore.

1995

Nikhil Bijlani, mathematics, is an analyst for Riggs Bank and resides in Gaithersburg, Md. with his wife, Angela.

Brian Coghlan, information systems management, is a Unix systems engineer for Advanced Concepts, Inc. and resides in Columbia, Md. with his wife Susan Coghlan, American studies ’96. She is a marketing coordinator for Grant Thornton LLC.

Rosemary Correnti, political science, is a nurse at Howard County General Hospital. She is pursuing a degree in nursing and resides in Marriottsville, Md.

Blairlee (Meade) Hawes, history, is pursuing a master’s degree in pastoral counseling from Loyola College and resides in Arnold, Md.

Jennifer (Naydan) Lask, psychology, is a counselor for the San Diego Center for Children and resides in Chula Vista, Calif. with her husband, Gregory, and daughter, Victoria.

Sandi Morton, health science and policy, is a collections specialist for Maxim Health Care Services and resides in Suitland, Md. with her husband, Craig, and daughter, Leah.

Ericka (Gibbs) Thompson, English, is an academic advisor at Coppin State College and resides in Baltimore with her husband, Chris, and sons, Jhalen and Jharen.

Crystal Watkins, biology, completed her master’s and doctoral degrees in neuroscience from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in May 2003. She resides in Baltimore with her husband, Nicholas.

1996

Alexa (Warfield) Bedwell, computer science and M.S. computer science ’99, is lead consultant for Impact Innovations. She resides in Columbia, Md. with her husband, Edward Bedwell, computer science and M.S. computer science ’99. He is a backbone engineer for Exodus.

Dong Chung, geography and environmental systems, is a cartographer for Macfadden and Associates, Inc. and resides in Fairfax, Va.

Robert Hopkins, engineering, is a patent examiner at the United States Patent and Technology Office and resides in Gaithersburg, Md. with his wife, Stephanie, and son, Brandon.

Kathleen Koenig-Stoffel, psychology, received a master’s degree in developmental psychology from the Johns Hopkins University in May 2002. She is a clinical research coordinator at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She resides in Baltimore with her husband, Kirk Stoffel, engineering ’98. He is a medical engineer for the Army Research Laboratories.

Justin Lewis, psychology, is loan officer for Bay Capital Corporation and is owner and performer in New Monopoly, a show and dance band. He resides in Owings Mills, Md.

Benjamin Schuman, visual and performing arts, is a professional opera singer and is the co-founder and associate director of the New York Chamber Opera. He and his wife, Danielle (Haslam) Schuman, social work ’96, live in Jersey City, N.J. Danielle is a human resources coordinator for New York University.

Cha Rae Scott, economics, is pursuing a master’s degree in business administration and management technology at the University of Phoenix. She is also a consultant for Verizon and resides in Pikesville, Md.

Christopher Stewart, modern languages and linguistics, is a software engineer for Hewlett Packard and resides in Tomball, Texas with his wife, Celia, and sons, Christopher and Jonathan.

1997

Scott Banta, engineering, received his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Rutgers University in December 2001. He is completing post-graduate work at Harvard University through Massachusetts General Hospital and resides in Allston, Mass.

Stephen Carrington, sociology, is a program analyst for the National Institutes of Health and resides in Elkridge, Md.

Brian Dannelly, visual and performing arts, completed a feature film for United Artists entitled "Saved" and resides in Los Angeles, Calif.

Timothy Perkins, emergency health services, was promoted to executive director of Central New York Emergency Medical Services, Inc. He resides in Auburn, N.Y.

Breton Wescott, history, is social studies team leader at Glen Burnie High School and resides in Glen Burnie, Md.

1998

Matthew Banta, physics, received a master’s degree in physics from the Johns Hopkins University and is employed at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab. He resides in Baltimore.

Earl Flood, social work, is program manager for Baltimore Crisis Response, Inc. and resides in Baltimore.

Shannon Goetz, modern languages and linguistics, began an audiology internship at the University of Maryland Medical Center and plans to graduate with a doctoral degree in audiology in May 2004 from Central Michigan University. She resides in Elkridge, Md.

Angela Roberts, English, is southern division coordinator for Legg Mason and resides in Baltimore.

Karen (Gotsch) Thomas, sociology, is an injury epidemiologist for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and resides in Decatur, Ga. with her husband, Jerry.

1999

Taranjit (Singh) Bhatia, English, is pursuing a doctorate degree in clinical psychology with a concentration in adolescent neuropsychology. She resides with her husband, Gurpreet, in Elk Grove Village, Ill.

Toya Marshall, American studies, is a management analyst for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. She resides in Baltimore with her husband, Victor.

Jennifer Searfoss, health services, is the government affairs representative for the Medical Group Management Association and resides in Baltimore with her husband, Michael.

Jennifer Poppino-Svites, emergency health services, is a firefighter and paramedic for the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and resides with her husband, David, in Laplata, Md.

2000

Rebecca Bensur, visual and performing arts, is a graphic designer for Network Publications and has been elected to the UMBC Alumni Association Board of Directors. She resides in Catonsville, Md.

Jane Parks, political science, is a campaign finance analyst for the United States government and resides in Glen Burnie, Md.

Jerome Russell, information systems management, is director of information technology at Stout, Causey, and Horning P.A. and resides in Ellicott City, Md.

2001

Robert Caswell, interdisciplinary studies, is a volunteer for the Peace Corps and is serving 27 months in Niger as a medical and agricultural volunteer. He resides in Berlin, Md.

Shannon (Stevens) Parsley, history, is a doctoral student and research fellow at American University and resides with her husband, Steven, in Elkridge, Md.

Brienna Ransom, information systems management, is a software test engineer at Dakota Imaging. She resides in Columbia, Md.

2002

Henok Aynalem, biochemistry and molecular biology, is a research associate for Quiagen Sciences and resides in Germantown, Md.

Saurabh Baveja, information systems, is programmer analyst for the U.S. Department of Defense and is pursuing a master’s degree in information systems at UMBC. He resides in Germantown, Md.

Stuart Dailey, music, is a music teacher for Baltimore City Public Schools, as well as vice president and saxophonist for the AJQ Jazz Band. He resides in Catonsville, Md.

Jason Jones, visual and performing arts, is pursuing a master’s degree in fine arts at the Cranbrook School of Art. He resides in Brookesville, Md.

Lauren Lynn, American studies, is a graduate student in the instructional technology program at Towson University and resides in Upper Marlboro, Md.

Nouman Syed, computer engineering, is a junior hardware engineer for Sigma Vision Inc. and resides in Baltimore.
