Public Policy Building
This new facility to be located in the new academic mall on the East Side of campus will complement its neighboring building, the home of Physics. It was envisioned that this facility would be four stories above grade and one below with brick façade.

The building will house the Shriver Center with 4,295 NASF; Sociology and Anthropology with 4,735; Economics with 4,375 NASF, Political Science with 3,115 NASF; Policy Sciences/ MIPAR with 5,385 NASF; and general purpose classrooms with 6,600 NASF; In addition the building will have general support with 2,800 NASF for a total NASF of 34,505 and a GSF of approximately 57,500.

These public policy related units are currently located in restricted spaces which impact grant activity, faculty appointment, teaching/learning activities and public service opportunities. The Shriver Center is a public outreach component which provides national leadership in work-and-service learning, recently relocated from Chemistry to the Surge Building. By placing the programs together, UMBC maximizes its potential for new collaborative projects, interdisciplinary research and efficient use of resources. This mix of space provides a central place on campus that can serve as a magnet for attracting discussion and debate about public policy issues.

The project was designed by Cho, Benn & Holback, Inc of Baltimore. The Construction Manager (CM) is Whiting-Turner of Baltimore.
