Walker Avenue Apartments
The University is embarking on a public/private partnership with the Erickson Foundation to design and construct a new on-campus year round apartment facility for undergraduates. The four and five story multiple building facility will be constructed in two phases, completed in fall 2004.

The design intent is to provide students with another permanent, year round housing option on campus. Details on room layouts can be seen in the model at the bottom of the page or by visiting the company that manages the apartments at: www.capstoneproperties.com .

Each room layout is based on a "suite" concept with a shared living room for each group. A small parking lot for handicapped and visitor parking was completed as part of the Phase I construction.

Phase I includes around 200 beds, Phase II, which construction began in June 03 has a planned 300 beds. Students will occupy the first phase buildings as of the Fall 2003 Semester.

When the completion of Phase II is completed in fall 2004, the interior courtyard created by the semi-enclosed "U" shape of the building provides passive activity areas with paving, landscaping, and seating all suited to a more residential setting.

The housing is located on the North side of campus at the intersection of Hilltop Circle and Walker Avenue. It will become the first building seen by incoming traffic from the Wilkens Avenue side of campus, making it easy to find and consistent with UMBCs upstanding image. Constructed much like commercial residential facilities, it also blends with the overall UMBC architecture, with its facade in brick.

General Manager of the Walker Avenue apartments is Carl A. Dieso. He can be reached at walkeraveapts@umbc.edu . OR goto the walker avenue apartments web page at http://www.capstoneproperties.com/locations/UMBC/ for more details.
