Rideshare is UMBC’s effort to support carpooling. Students, faculty and staff who are interested in carpooling
(both those who have a ride and those who need a ride) can come into the OCSS office and fill out a
Rideshare form, which will go into the Rideshare binder. They can also look through the Rideshare binder for
others in their area interested in ridesharing, and then get in touch with those people to make arrangements.

This is a great way to meet new people and save gas! Additionally, OCSS has 5 Priority Parking spaces in Lot 8
(behind the Fine Arts building) that are awarded at the beginning of every semester to people who carpool.

If you have any questions or would like more information about Rideshare or Priority Parking,
call OCSS at 410-455-2770 or stop by our office in Commons room 309.

As well as the Ridesharing program at UMBC, several local areas also support ridesharing, carpooling,
and vanpooling. To check these out in your area, click on the following links:

Some Frequently asked questions about Rideshare Program:
What is Rideshare?
Rideshare is a special Priority Parking program to encourage commuters to carpool to campus.
Students that carpool can be awarded a Rideshare Priority Parking permit that allows you to park
in special Priority Parking located north of Fine Arts.
Why apply?
When a student gets a Priority Parking space he/she can save time by not searching campus
for a parking space and also having a space located close to the acadamic side of campus.
Who can apply?
All UMBC carpooling commuters are encouraged to apply! If you are a commuter who travels a considerable
distance to school (20 or more miles), or you are a student with disablities, you can also apply. Priority Parking Permits
are based off the number of carpoolers per car, distance traveled, and individual schedules. Permits will be given and
assigned during the beginning of each semester. Please apply at Off-Campus Student Services, Commons, Room 309.
When do you apply?
Please submit one application per group or individual along with copies of your myUMBC schedules
at the beginning of each semester. Rideshare deadline dates are set at the beginning of the semester,
so please check with our office for our due date at the beginning of each term. The deadline is usually a
few weeks after the start of classes, and permits are handed out at the end of the month. Thanks and good luck!
I've won a permit! Thanks! What now?
Please remember, Rideshare Priority Parking Permits are assigned to a particular car for a particular time slot.
PLEASE DO NOT give or lend your permit to a friend or fellow student. If Parking Services walks by, and the right
car isn't in the right timeslot, you will be towed! We don't want this to happen to any of our illustrious
UMBC commuters, so please keep to your assigned timeslots and vehicles.

If there is a change in the vehicle being used, please stop by our office and let us know so we can note the change.
If there's a change in timeslots, stop on by and please let us know.

Priority Parking Permits are usually given out at the end of the first month, after your car and slot times have been given
to Parking Services. After you've been notified that you've won a permit, please come into our office and we'll finish up
any remaining paperwork.
