UMBC students who are looking to carpool with other students have the opportunity to sign up on a free online service called AlterNet Rides. With this service, only UMBC students have access to post or look for other riders. This is a totally confidential service and is limited to only UMBC students. As a student, you must first log in with your UMBC student login at this website:
https://apps-my.umbc.edu/apps/alternetrides/ »
Once you are logged in, you can create an account so that you can post a "Ride Wanted" listing, or you can search for those who are looking for a ride. Sometimes, students are even willing to pay money to split gas costs to do this type of carpooling to campus.
If you choose to create an account to post a listing, just click on "Sign Up" and then follow the prompts to tell other students about where you are coming from and what your limits are for the ride share opportunity. If you are just looking for students who may be willing to carpool, just click on the link that says "Show Detailed List of Rides." Once on that page, click on the student's name that you are interested in learning more about, and this will open a page that allows you to email the student directly to find out more information about sharing a ride with them.
If you have questions about carpooling, please contact Off Campus Student Services at ocss@umbc.edu or 410-455-2770.
