NEW STAFF/FACULTY

The deadline for new payroll deduction applications is February 13. Anyone hired after this date or whose paperwork is not complete with HR  on February 13, 2024 must pay for their permit outright or purchase daily permits. Newly hired employees who are eligible for payroll deduction may sign-up for the program in August (Parking Services will contact eligible individuals mid-August).

PARKING ENFORCEMENT

Posted sign violations and standard Maryland Traffic Regulations are enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days per year (regardless of whether UMBC is open or closed that day). Parking permits are enforced during the hours of 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday – Friday. Parking permits are required during the summer. There is no free parking during the hours of 8 AM to 4 PM. You must pay between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM, Monday thru Friday, in the Pay-to-Park lots.

FAQ’s

1. What do I need to do to cancel my parking payroll deductions when I leave UMBC?

A. Please go to parking.umbc.edu and click on Forms. Once you do that, click on the Payroll Cancellation Form. Once on the form, click on cancel and submit.

2. Do you have to pay-to-park in visitor parking lots?

A. All individuals parking in the pay-to-park lots must pay $2 per hour. This policy is in effect, Monday – Friday during the hours of 7 AM to 7 PM. Regardless of whether you are sitting in your car, if you are in a space, you must pay.  You may pay at the Pay Machines at any pay-to-park lot. Machines accept cash or credit card payments. Please note, pay machines do NOT give change. Please the exact amount you want or you will not receive change. You  may also utilize the Park Mobile App. You can pay conveniently from your phone or device. Receipts are no longer needed.

3. Where are your electric charging stations and how long can we park at one?
A. We have 10 charging stations in the Walker Avenue Garage, 7 in Lot 9 and 2 in the Stadium Lot. We do require that you limit yourself to 4 hours per day. Violators will be cited.
4. I bought daily permits. Will they expire before I can use them?
A. No, daily permits are good through 2025.
5. I just went online and registered my vehicle and secured a permit. Do I have to pick anything up?
A. No, all permits are virtual. Our enforcement agents scan your plate and verify you have the proper permit. This is why it is essential you keep your vehicle information up-to-date.
6. I tried to remove a car but the parking system will not let me? What do I do?
A. Please contact Parking Services via email at parking@umbc.edu and let us know your campus ID and the plate to be removed. We will happily remove this for you.
7. What are the different parking permit categories for students?
A. Commuter students receive the A Permit. Walker Avenue Apartments students receive a B Permit. Resident students receive the C Permit. Please note, sharing permits is strictly prohibited and will result in citations and further penalties from student conduct.
8. How long do I have to pay my citation?
A. You have 30 days to pay off your account balance before a $10 late fee will be added. If not paid after 45 days, an additional $20 late fee will be added, and a student hold added to your account. Payments can be made with cash or check in the Parking Services Offices or at the UMBC Parking Portal with a credit card.
