Find a Roommate

If you are looking for a roommate to share an apartment with, there are a few options for you at UMBC.

  1. Go to our Off Campus Housing website and click on Search for a Roommate:

  3. Come in person to a housing tour and meet other students who are looking for roommates and housing. These tours happen during the third and fourth week of July each year.
  4. Speak to our partner housing community in person at a Housing Fair, who may be able to connect you with other students looking for roommates. Our housing fairs take place in October, May, and August each year. For more information about fairs or housing tours, please check our website for updates or contact us at 410-455-2770.

Posting Housing and Roommate Profiles

Do you have an apartment or house that you want to list for rent? Are you a UMBC student looking to post your profile so you can have other people contact you to become roommates? Then this is the place for you.

If you wish to list your property for rent to UMBC students, you will use our partner website Off Campus Housing 101 (http://www.umbc.och101.com/). For detailed instruction on how to create an account, post the account, and fees for services click here.

Off Campus Housing 101 allows you to add pictures of your property. Click here for instructions on how to add pictures.

All users of the UMBC Off-Campus Housing service can use the website for free for the first month. For those who are UMBC students, staff members, or faculty members, you must call this 800 number (1-800-862-9874) after the first month and give them your UMBC ID number in order to continue using the free service.

MTA All Access Pass

The MTA College Pass Program allows students to purchase a monthly MTA pass for a discounted price of $39, which is $25 off the regular price. Passes can be purchased at the end of each month for use during the following month. Payment is by UMBC CAMPUS CARD ONLY.

Mail Services on Campus

Overview

Students, staff and faculty have access to United States Postal Service (USPS) mailing services and Federal Express (FedEx) shipping resources through The Comm_Store. Sales are cashless with purchases made using the Campus Card. All USPS services, except money orders and passport photos, are available.

Postal Counter

Any type of mailing can be accommodated, metered and delivered to the USPS Post Office. Options can be discussed to assure the best mailing choice with respect to speed and cost. A full range of offerings, such as Priority and Express Mail, as well as services, such as certified, registered, return receipt and insured mail are readily available. Items brought to the counter by 4 PM will be taken to the Post Office that same day.

Stamps and Mailing Supplies

Stamps, in any denomination or quantity, are typically available over the counter with a wide selection offered for those looking for a bit of variety or fun in posting their letters. With respect to supplies, most anything mailing related is available for purchase. This includes a wide variety of standard envelopes (padded, tyvek, cushion, Kraft, #10) and specialized mailers (CD, AV, tubes, flats, boxes) in various sizes. A full range of USPS Priority and Express packaging is also stocked and available at no charge to the user.

Shipping Center

Most shipping needs can be accommodated. A full selection of USPS offerings is available from overnight Express mail to economical Parcel Post. Both domestic and international mailings are handled. For those seeking a carrier service, FedEx services are available for domestic shipping. FedEx offers a variety of options including one, two and three (Express Saver) day delivery, as well as, the very economical Ground and Home Delivery offerings. If you wish to package your item in the store, a wide selection of boxes is available along with a variety of packing materials to protect your shipment. The right box, packing and labeling are the best ways to issue a safe, on time delivery of your item. Everything needed for such is available at very reasonable prices.

 

Notary Public

Various convenience services designed for use by our student community are also available in The Comm_Store. These include fax send/receive, copying and Personal Mail Boxes, as well as, access to a scanner, color printer and typewriter. One service that has proven of particular interest to faculty/staff is the availability of a Notary Public at a low flat rate fee.

Where to Buy Stamps on Campus

Students can purchase stamps at the following locations:

  • The UMBC Bookstore (The Commons) - You cannot purchase individual stamps here. You must purchase an entire book of stamps.
  • The Comm Store (University Center) - You can buy stamps individually or in books. But you must load CASH to your UMBC Red Card to pay. They are a cashless operation.

 

Transportation to Places of Interest

BWI and Light Rail Take UMBC Shuttle Bus BWI MARC Line to BWI MARC/Amtrak Station and take the free shuttle bus from there to BWI airport or to the BWI Light Rail Station.
Inner Harbor Take MTA Bus #35 to downtown. Exit at corner of Pratt and Charles Streets. Proceed East on Pratt Street to Inner Harbor.
Arundel Mills Mall Take UMBC Shuttle Bus BWI MARC Line to BWI MARC/Amtrak Station. From there, take MTA Bus #17 to Arundel Mills Mall.
or: Fri-Sun, take the UMBC Shuttle Bus Arundel Mills Line to the Arundel Mills Mall.
Security Square Mall Take MTA Bus #77 to Security Blvd. and Rolling Road.
Westview Shopping Center Take the UMBC Shuttle Bus Catonsville Line to Ingleside Ave. at the Ingleside Mall and proceed to the Westview Mall.
or: Take the MTA bus #77 to Ingleside Ave. and Craigmont Street. Proceed to the Westview Shopping Center.
Owings Mills Mall Take MTA bus #77 to Old Court Metro Subway Station. From there, take the Metro Subway to Owings Mills.
Columbia Mall Mon-Fri, take the MTA bus #35 downtown to Lombard and Charles Streets. From there, take the MTA bus #310/311 to the Columbia Mall.
White Marsh Mall Take MTA Bus #35 to White Marsh Mall.
Towson Town Center/Towson University Take MTA bus #35 to Baltimore and Charles Streets. On Baltimore Street, transfer to MTA bus #8 which goes to Towson University.
Hunt Valley Take the UMBC Shuttle Bus BWI MARC Line to the BWI MARC/Amtrak Station and take the free shuttle to the BWI Light Rail Station. Take the Blue Light Rail north to Hunt Valley.
Greenbelt Metro Station Take the UMBC Shuttle Bus Halethorpe/Satellite Line to the Halethorpe MARC station (stop # 14 on the schedule). From Halethorpe, take the Penn Line Marc Train to BWI MARC/Amtrak Station and take the free shuttle bus from there to BWI airport. Proceed to the bus stop at Pier E on the lower level of the international terminal. From there, take the MTA bus #B30 to the Greenbelt Metro Station.
Washington D.C (Union Station) Take the UMBC Shuttle Bus Halethorpe/Satellite Line to the Halethorpe MARC station(stop # 14 on the schedule). From Halethorpe, take the Penn Line MARC Train to BWI MARC/Amtrak Station to get to Union Station.
Greater Silver Spring Metropolitan Area Follow above directions to Washington D.C. Union Station also has a DC Metro Rail station (Red Line). Proceed on a Red Line Train in the direction of Glenmont. Get off at Silver Spring Metro station.
Laurel Metropolitan Area Mon-Fri, take the MTA bus #35 to Camden Yards. Proceed to Camden MARC Station at Howard and Conway Streets and take the MARC Train South to Laurel.
