INSTALLING  NEW  SOFTWARE - AV Services - client requested installs

Unfortunately, no new software can be loaded or installed PC’s during the semester. New software often affects the operation of other programs or operating system.

  1. Use a laptop - If the desired software is not on the installed PC, the instructor should bring a laptop to the room to demonstrate the software.
  2. Laptop availability - If you do not possess or have access to a laptop, AV Services has a limited number that have been set aside for this purpose. One week’s advance notice by email to avservices@umbc.edu is required. Put “Need laptop to load custom software” in the subject field.
  3. Requester loads the software - Please note that AV Services does not load the software. A temporary administrative account will be created for you. Please do not change the default settings, and remove the software when finished. The requester assumes responsibility for software license compliance.
  4. Limited hard drive space - There is no guarantee that software can be installed, as the size of hard drive may be insufficient.
  5. Test specific functionality - The faculty or staff member installing the software is responsible for testing specific functionality in their software to ensure it works properly after installation, as they are familiar with how the software should operate.
  6. No support - Support of your software will not be provided by our staff, as this is specialty software for your particular course.

Due to heavy demand, it is not possible to guarantee a specific unit can be set aside for pickup, although we will make a good faith effort.

The above is for AV Services.  The IMC cannot support mid-semester installs either.  Our image for the lab machines is maintained by OIT and they usually require 6 weeks notice before the semester starts for installing new software.
