SETTING  UP  WIMBA  VOICE  DIRECT

Synchronous chat that can be archived.

1. Make button for Wimba or Voice Direct on Bb sidebar

Click on + at top of column and add content area

Name it, check available to users and submit

2. Click on Voice Direct button

Down arrow  - Add interactive tool

Choose Voice Direct

3.  Name it – easiest to put names of  students in group

4. FOR INSTRUCTORS ONLY – options will allow you to start/stop archiving but students DO NOT get this option.  Make sure it says conference is being archived.  Click on hand to get mic and begin speaking and the X to stop.  Next, your partner will click on hand  to talk, X to stop, continue back & forth for chat.

Please note that if you enter a group to edit it that everythings returns to the defaults ; that means that it will revert to not being archived - be careful and re-check the auto archive radio button.

At the bottom of this window there will be a link to run the wizard - do this the first time to be sure your computer is configured correctly - right java, trust appelet, allow popups, check mic.

5.  At options, you can choose  expand all

Click on name with speaker – go back to options and choose continuous play to hear entire conversation without clicking on each line

Go to green arrow in player area

Note:  Students only get the archive button in the initial Voice Direct screen which allows them to see the archives, not to choose to archive.  They will not have the delete, forward, export button after they click on the archive button – they will only have options in playing it back.
