Set your Mac Laptop up for audio out via the headphone jack

1. Plug the mini-plug cable from the AV System into the Head Phone Jack on the side of your Mac Laptop. Make sure you do not use the Microphone Jack - it's the same size. Most of the time the sound coming from your laptop will then automatically bypass your built-in speakers and come out of the Headphone Jack but occasionally, with a few applications, you might need to dive into the basic sound settings to change this.

The Mac Laptop Head Phone Jack looks like this:

2. Look under the Apple Menu on the upper left-hand side, go down to System Preferences...

3. Select Sound

4. Make sure Output is selected at the top then check that the Headphone port is highlighted for sound output. Close System Preferences, any changes you made will be saved.
