UMBC Alternate Delivery Program
Presentation of Learning Objects

As part of the requirements for one-time ADP course redesign funding support, each faculty member is required to present a learning object, module, assignment, activity or exercise that he or she plans to use in the redesigned course (10-20 minutes), noon-1:30 p.m., ECS 023.

A two-member review panel of faculty who have taught a summer or winter ADP course twice will hear the presentation, which is open to the campus and will be videotaped (past presentations are also available for review on the Hybrid Course Design Workshop Bb site).

Faculty Requirements

  • The learning object should specifically address the pedagogical problems (or implications) a hybrid or online course solves (or creates).
  • So others can view it, the learning object must be “posted” on the companion Hybrid Course Design “Practice” site, to which all users have instructor access upon request.
  • The 10-20 minute presentation about the learning object must include a peer AND student review to gauge the learning object’s potential effectiveness.
  • Suggested presentation outline: 1) problem, 2) solution, 3) summary of student/peer review, 4) next steps and 5) Q & A.
    • Note: If you cannot present to the panel in person, the deliverable AND narrated presentation must be posted on the Hybrid Course Design Workshop Bb site. In other words, you must use hybrid delivery techniques to solve the problem of your absence in making a presentation about your learning object.

Panel Responsibilities

  • Attend the face-to-face deliverable presentations for ADP funding support and provide brief, immediate feedback on each instructor's presentation.
  • Review the learning objects posted on the companion Hybrid Course Design Workshop practice site.
  • No later than two weeks after the presentation, send a brief email review to the faculty member via the hybrid courses email listserve containing the following:
  • A summary of the deliverable's strengths & weaknesses to solve the instructor's stated pedagogical problem or desire to create a new learning opportunity.
  • Any suggestions for improving the deliverable if students were to see it in a class that starts tomorrow;
  • A link to the online videotape archive of the professor's presentation (DoIT will publish this link on the hybrid courses email listserve no later than a week after the presentation).
  • Facilitate discussion on the hybrid courses email listerve about pedagogical or delivery issues that emerge from the presentations.
  • Three weeks after the presentation, email ONLY concerns about the effectiveness of a faculty member's deliverable and his or her readiness to deliver the hybrid course to John Fritz (DoIT) AND Beth Jones (OSWSP). Barring any concerns, the faculty member will be invited to proceed to the next ADP deliverable requirement.
  • Make referrals to the Faculty Development Center or Division of Information Technology for pedagogical and/or instructional technology support, as needed. If a faculty member chooses to revise a learning object after the first deliverable presentation, he or she may present a brief update at the second deliverable presentation, after all of the second round ADP deliverables have been presented.
  • Optional: Consult with ADP participants before or after they present their learning objects.
