HP-ID

The HP-ID is a 9-digit number. It's used as a primary key for UMBC's SIS databases. The number is unique and non-changing for all users.

HP-ID is available in the Campus LDAP Directory in the 'person' record. The attribute name is 'umbchpid'. In SIS, it's often referred to as 'SSN' because it replaced SSN as primary key in 2006. The 9-digit format was kept the same to avoid the need to rewrite all of the various SIS functions. There's also a database table in SIS, BAUTH.CAMPUS_ID_LDAP, which can be used to cross-reference HP-IDs with Campus IDs.
