University affiliation definitions

These are the affiliation definitions that we use in our LDAP-based directory services system.

Base Affiliations

These affiliations are set based on criteria found in the listed (Data Source). They can also be granted manually by the HelpDesk as a temporary affiliation (with an expiration date); this is the only way that affiliations with a data source of "Manual" can be granted.

account holder (Manual)
Manually entered for someone who should have a UMBC account despite not having a standard affiliation
alumni (SIS)
Holds a degree granted by UMBC
continuing education student (Manual)
Manually entered by the HelpDesk on behalf of the ELC
contractor (Manual)
Manually entered for contractual employees who do not appear in HR
emeritus (Manual)
Manually entered for emeritus faculty
faculty (HR)
Has a currently active job with an EMPL_CLASS value of A06, B07, D25, F26 G37, H01, I02, J03, L05, or N15
graduate assistant (HR)
Has a currently active job with an EMPL_CLASS value of K04 or O16
graduate student (SIS)
See undergraduate student
instructor (SIS)
Is listed as teaching a course in the current semester
other (Manual)
Manually entered for VERY RARE, miscellaneous cases
staff (HR)
Has a currently active job with an EMPL_CLASS value of Q20, R22, S31, T33, U34, or V35
student staff (HR)
Has a currently active job with an EMPL_CLASS value of M14
undergraduate student (SIS)
Is currently eligible to register for undergraduate classes in the current or the next major semester (fall or spring) AND is not ineligible during an intervening minor semester
-OR- Was actually registered for classes in the last major semester and has not become ineligible in the intervening time
