How to Remove the Patch for UMBC Dial Up Problems

Technical Notes

This problem with the recent dial up issues is because of a Microsoft patch (KB911280) that was released on June 13, 2006.  This patch was to fix a problem; it also has a side affect of breaking certain types of dial up connections. The problem is not isolated to just UMBC Dial Up users.  Many other universities/organizations are having this problem as well.  As a result, it must be removed from a computer in order for UMBC Dial Up to be operational again.  Microsoft is working on releasing a revision to the patch that will fix the vulnerability and fix the problem that has resulted from this patch.
