New Campus ID

FAQ

Do I need a new card?

Where is the University Center building?

What do I do if I lost my old card? Can I still pickup my new ID?

Where can I find my Campus ID?

UMBC has a new ID card system therefore all faculty, staff and students returning to the University in Fall 2006 will be issued a new card.  This unique, random ID will be incorporated into the Campus Card database and appear on the face of a new UMBC Campus Card. The magnetic strip identifier, which will not be displayed on the card, will also be changed to a new random multi-digit number unrelated to the user's Social Security number. The new cards will control access to University facilities, library loan services, and paying for on-campus services such as printing and meals.  Soon, the new Campus ID will be required to enroll in e-billing.. It is a requirement that all should carry their ID card with them whenever they are on campus. Old ID cards will NOT work anymore. New IDs are available in the Communications Services department located on the first floor University Center.

To verify if you already have the new ID, you should have the following information printed on the card (see sample images below):

  • Full Name
  • Campus ID - made up of two letters followed by five numbers; will take the place of SSNs as a unique identifier
  • UMBC Status/Affiliation - for example - faculty, staff, or student
  • LIMS No - used for Library loan services

Communication Services requires a government issued pictured ID for identity confirmation to pick up the new ID. If you lose your new ID, it will not be FREE. The price for a replacement card is $10.00 provided you use the campus card to pay for it, if not you will be charged $15.00 and it will be billed to your student account.
