3. Clicker Does Not Turn On
4. Connecting Your Clicker in the Classroom

5 . Creating an Instructor Accnt & Registering a Course in Bb
6. Registering Student Clickers in Blackboard
7. Using Clickers in Lecture Halls 7 & 8
8. Articles on "Clickers"

Verify your CPS account information

  • You can log directly into the eInstruction website by using the username and password you initially created when you registered your clicker. Once logged in you can see all of the courses you have registered for and verify that your clicker serial number matches your current clicker. You can update your clicker if necessary.

  • If you registered your clicker through Blackboard, you can also verify your clicker serial number by logging into the course -> click on Tools -> CPS Connection -> and the information at the right should appear with your serial numbershould appear.

Registering Your Clicker in a Course

You must register for each class seperately and you only have to pay the registration fee once each semester. Make sure you register your clicker through the correct portal. Some instructors will ask you to register your clicker through eInstruction and others will ask you to register through an associated Blackboard course. Make sure you check with your instructor to see how they want it done. NOTE: Make sure you register your clicker well before the start of class so your instructor has time to update their clicker roster.

If you accidently register in the wrong portal you can go ahead and register in the correct portal without additional charges. (Provided you are acting in the same semester.)

NOTE: If you are registering through Blackboard just go to the course as mentioned above. If you are registering through the eInstruction portal, you will need the class key from your instructor.

Clicker Does Not Turn On

If everything looks okay on the website but the clicker is not functioning:

  • Check your battery power. The blue/white clickers have a power indicator on the clicker screen. If you have the orange/blue clicker, replace the batteries.

    NO
TE: Always turn your clicker off between classes. It will save the batteries and allow for better connection in the next class even if you're in the same classroom. (However, don't turn the clicker off during class untiI the instructor says you are finished. You could lose connection.)

Connecting Your Clicker in the Classroom

When your instructor gives you the go ahead, turn your clicker on in class. Turning the clicker on too soon will only shorten the battery life.

When your instructor tells you to turn on your clickers, the blue/white clickers should immdiately join the clicker session and you should see "Connected" and then "TMA Mode" on the clicker screen. "TMA Mode" also let's you know that you are still connected.

NOTE: OIT recommends that you participate in one of these training sessions to familiarize yourself with the software. These are the designated training materials for this product.

Creating an Instructor Account & Registering a Course in Blackboard
Registering a Course in Bla
NOTE: OIT requires that all instructors using the CPS system register their courses and have their students register their clickers through the appropriate Blackboard course using the instructions below. This maintains continuity in the system and allows for better support through OIT.

1. To create an eInstruction "Instructor" account and to register your Blackboard course in CPS go to the course "Tools" area.

NOTE: An eInstruction "instructor" account is required to register Blackboard courses in the CPS system.

2. Click on the "CPS Connection" link and then the "Register" button.

3. Complete all of the required fields in the form to register the course and click "Register the class" and create a new user "instructor" account if you don't already have one.
(You can use the UMBC default "instructor setup code" to complete the process.)

NOTE: At the end of the registration process you will receive a class "key". Make sure to take note of the "key" and write it down. The students need the "key" when they register their clickers.

Registering Student Clickers in Blackboard

Once the course has been registered in Blackboard by the instructor, the students can then return to the same location (Bb course -> Tools -> CPS Connection) and register their clickers using the course "key".

NOTE: Remind students to register through the Blackboard course and not through eInstruction.com to maintain a consistant roster.

Using "Clickers" in Lecture Halls 7 & 8

This document outlines how the Admissions Department uses clickers for student orientation. If you have questions about the document, contact Stan Kahn, Manager of Technical Services, Enrollment Division, OFC of Enrollment Management.
