CPS Clickers - Frequently Asked Questions by Students

NOTE: The following are common problems that occur with eInstruction student clickers at UMBC. If you try these solutions and are not successful, please call eInstruction directly at 1-888-333-7532. You can also contact them by email and chat by going to their support page. eInstruction.com help sheets can also be found online.

Registering your Clicker

  1. Check with your instructor to verify where to register your clicker. (Most classes register under "Tools" in the appropriate Blackboard course.)

  2. Make sure the pop-up blocker is turned OFF in your browser BEFORE you start to register your clicker. (A blank screen may result if it is left on.)

  3. Always use the same CPS student account for proper credit of payments. NOTE: Clickers at UMBC should ALWAYS be registered through the appropriate Blackboard course and not through the online process.

  4. If you cannot register or payment is refused, you must contact eInstruction to resolve the issue.

Joining Your Clicker in the Classroom

  1. After arriving in class, join your clicker after seeing the "Join" screen (at right) presented by your instructor.

    - For blue/white clickers, press "PWR" and you will see "TMA" mode when joined successfully.

    - For blue/orange clickers, follow directions on the screen. Success will be shown by a green light on the pad.

  2. Once you have successfully "joined" the clicker, DO NOT turn it off. NOTE: If you have two classes back-to-back using clickers, you must turn the clicker OFF between classes and then join the second class.

  3. If you continue to see "Joining" throughout the class:

    - Clicker may be malfunctioning, try turning Off" then "On" again.

    - Check with your instructor to make sure you are registered in the class.

    - Finally, contact eInstruction.
  • Note: Clickers cannot be "joined" while a question is being asked.
