Creating a Discussion Board Forum
Students
can access Discussion Boards, either through the Tools menu button, or through
a new Menu button that you create.
If you want a menu button specifically for Discussion Boards, use the
following steps to create one.
Creating a Menu Button for Discussions
Step 1: On
the left menu click on the blue plus icon at the top left (just above the
course name).
Step
2: Choose Create Tool Link from
the drop down menu.
Step
3: Enter the name you want to call it, and choose Discussion Board from the type drop down menu.
Click on the Available to Users box so that students will see this button.
Step
4: Click Submit.
Creating a New Forum
Step
1: Click on the Discussion Board menu button.
Step
2: Click on the Create Forum button.
Step
3: Enter in a name and a description for the forum. Select Yes under #2 (Forum
Availability) to make it available.
You
can enter further date/time restrictions in the same section.
Step
4: Choose the appropriate Forum Settings. By default the ÒsubscriptionÓ function
is turned off. Turning it on
will allow students to subscribe to the discussion board,
and receive an E-mail whenever there has been a new post.
Step
5: Click Submit.
Step
6: If you find that you need to edit the Forum at a later date, click on the
two arrows to the right of the Forum title, and select Edit from the drop down
menu.
