Adding and Modifying / Managing Content Areas

Content Areas are sections of a Blackboard course dedicated to documents, such as assignments, readings, or a designated area in your course for tests and quizzes. You may add your own content areas, as well as rename or remove pre-existing areas.

1. Adding Content Areas

In the course Control Panel, under Course Options, click Manage Course Menu.

From the Manage Course Menu, click the Content Area button on the Add bar.

- Enter an Area Name, or choose a pre-selected name from the dropdown menu.

- Ensure 'Make available for Student/Participant users' is select.

-Click Submit to add the new content area to your course.

2. Modifying and Managing Content Areas

When modifying content areas, you may:

- Rename a content area
- Change availability options
- Re-order the areas on the course menu

From the course Control Panel, click
Manage Course Menu.

Click the Modify button to the right of the content area you wish to change (rename or change availability).

Area types (such as Content Area, Announcements, Communication Tools) are denoted by the italicized label under the name of the area.

If an item is unavailable to students, an 'item is not currently available' message appears.

The Modify window consists of the same options seen when creating a new content area. Here, you may:

- Enter a new name for the content area, or select one from the dropdown menu.

- Select or deselect guest access and availability to students.

3. Removing Content Areas

To remove a content area:

Return to the Manage Course Menu link in your course Control Panel.

Click the Remove button for the corresponding content area you wish to delete.

Click OK to confirm the area deletion.
