Creating and Replying to Discussion
Threads |
![]() |
A thread
is a series of messages inside a forum, related to a specific idea.
The look of these has changed from previous versions of
Blackboard, but the functionality remains intact.
| 1.
Create a New Discussion Thread |
Inside a
Discussion
Forum, click the Add Thread button. Depending on the forum
options, this may not be available to students.

2. Post a
Message
Add
a title to the thread and enter the body of the message.
Click submit to post the thread. This is quite
similar to posting a message in the older version of Blackboard.
| 3. Reply
to a Message |
Both at the
top and bottom of the message, there is a reply button. This
will allow you to enter the body of your reply. Click submit
(as above) to post your reply.

| 4. Using
The Message View and Rearranging the Layout of the Message Page |
Individual
messages can be flagged by selecting the check box next to message in
the thread view and clicking the Flag button at the top.
These flags allow you to see which messages you've marked as
important, and can easily find them later.
The thread
view can be swapped (represented by an arrow icon), hidden
(the dash icon), and resized (the window icon). Maximizing the thread
view and swapping it to the bottom will replicate the look from older
versions of Blackboard.
