Blackboard Personal Information at UMBC

Each Blackboard user at UMBC has a user account that contains some of your personal information. By default, the following information is included in each Blackboard user account when it is created:

First and Last name
UMBC user ID
Social Security number

In order to send/ receive email through the Blackboard system, each user must edit their personal information to include their appropriate email address, and at the same time edit any information that they feel should be edited.

To access and edit your personal information log onto http://blackboard.umbc.edu.

1. Click on the Login Button

2. Log into Blackboard using your UMBC userid and password.


3. Once you are logged into Blackboard you will see a gray Tool Box on the left side of the screen. Click on the Personal Information link and this will take you to your Personal Information page inside Blackboard.



4. To edit your personal information click on the Edit Personal Information link.



The important fields to consider are your:

First and last name
UMBC user name
Email address

By default the email field will be empty. Enter the email address that you use on a regular basis even if it is not your UMBC account.



Note:
Feel free to delete your social security number under Student ID if you would like.

5. Click on "Submit" at the bottom of the page and the changes will be saved.


Privacy Options

Note: On the Personal Information page you also have the option to set your privacy options, that is whether or not you would like to have your email address appear in the roster area of your Blackboard courses.

1. Click on the Set Privacy Options link on the Personal Information page.


2. Check the box next to Email Address if you want to have your address in the course roster. If you do not want it to appear leave the box blank and click "Submit".

Note: Regardless of whether you want your email address to appear or not you will still have the ability to send/receive email within Blackboard.


3. If you chose to have your email address appear in your courses, users will be able to find the address in the course roster.
