UMBC Blackboard Usability Study

In conjunction with a graduate research class at the University of Baltimore, the Office of Information Technology conducted a usability study of UMBC's Blackboard course management system during the Spring 2002 semester. Initial efforts consisted of 45-60 minute observation sessions to see how students and faculty use Blackboard to complete their "work." Based on these sessions, volunteers were then asked to complete specific tasks designed to test Blackboard's "usability" (i.e., functionality). Results of the study and a description of this "User Centered Design" process are described in the following:

Note: If you would like to comment on this study, a discussion forum has been set up in the UMBC Blackboard Users Group "Community" site inside Blackboard. If you are already a member of the Blackboard Users Group, you may login by clicking here (requires UMBC userid & password).
