The fastest way of getting help is to read documentation on our website. We've compiled documentation from setting up your email account to troubleshooting your network connection. You can use the 'Search OIT Site' located at the top of every page. If you are not able to find, you can visit our office on campus.
Our main computer support office, the Help Desk, is located in the Engineering building room 021. Students with technology questions (including about residence campus phone and cable television issues) should call the Help Desk at x53838, send the Help Desk email at helpdesk@umbc.edu, or fill-out our work order request form.
The Help Desk solves most inquiries and issues over the phone. If the issue cannot be resolved over the phone, the student may schedule an appointment to meet with a Help Desk technician on-campus for hands-on assistance. A student may bring in a laptop, workstation, and other peripherals to an appointment so that Help Desk technicians can provide step-by-step guidance as described within this document. However, to protect the manufacturer' s warranty, as a general rule Help Desk technicians do not open, take apart, or install hardware components or install software on any student-owned machine. |
