UMBC RedHat is based on RedHat Enterprise Linux, and will work on any hardware supported by RedHat. The following page lists all of the supported hardware for RHEL.
It is recommended that Dell be considered when purchasing computer hardware since UMBC has an existing relationship with Dell, and our experience with Dell has been good.
We have tested the UMBC RedHat Distribution on the following PCs:
Please Note that the above hardware is no longer available from Dell. As newer hardware becomes available, we will be expanding our list of supported hardware as time permits. Our current recommended machine from Dell is the GX280 machine.
The vast majority of Networking hardware available should be supported by UMBC redHat. Please check the RedHat Hardware Support Page for further information if you are having problems.
Support for modems in this distribution is quite limited. Please consult the RedHat Hardware Support Page for support for your modem. In cases of Winmodems (the vast majority of internal modems today are Winmodems ), you may want to consult the LinModem page for possible support.
This distributions is targeted towards the on campus community, and our level of support for off campus use may be limited.
