Easy Steps to Secure your Computer

Change Passwords Regularly

Change your myUMBC Password

If you forgot your password, you can stop by the HelpDesk located in ENGR 020 along with a valid picture ID and a consultant can change your password while you wait; or you can fax a valid picture ID along with the Account Request Change form (http://www.umbc.edu/oit/compacctrequest.pdf) to the Help Desk. A Help Desk Consultant will call you back with your new password.

1. Start an Internet browser. (You must have an established Internet connection before proceeding). 2. Go the the UMBC web site - http://www.umbc.edu. Click the myUMBC logo.

3. Log into myUMBC. 4. Click the Personal tab.

5. Enter old myUMBC password. Enter new password twice. If the system accepts the new password, the system will display "password successfully changed" on the screen.

Setting Up Local Accounts

Sooner or later more than one person will want to work on your PC. All sorts of problems pop up when several people share a PC. You configure your desktop to just the right layout, with all your icons right where you can find them, and then your son comes along and accidentally deletes a document.

Setting up different accounts lets Windows keep track of each person's settings. Windows keeps track of each person's preferences and loads them once that person logs on.

Adding Users
  1. Choose Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts
  2. Click the task marked Create a New Account
  3. Enter a Name
