Request for Proposals:
Faculty Development in Teaching, Learning & Technology
In
conjunction with the Faculty Development Center, the Office of
Information Technology is seeking proposals from UMBC department
chairs and graduate program directors for faculty development
in Teaching, Learning & Technology (TLT). Funding is available
to departments for group and/or individual proposals that support
UMBC priorities to improve technological literacy and student
engagement. The maximum in funding to any department is $5,000.

DURATION
Funding of successful proposals will cover activities during
the 2002-2003 academic year. Also, recipients will be expected
to give a presentation about their projects at an upcocming TLT
Brown Bag Workshop or TLT
Fair.
PRIORITIES
Preference
will be given to proposals that support the following university
priorities:

Enhancing the techonology literacy of UMBC students. See the

PROPOSAL
FORMAT
Proposals
must be submitted by the department chair or graduate program
director via email to Antonio Moreira, Vice Provost for Academic
Affairs (email: moreira@umbc.edu).
These proposals should identify the courses in which curricular
changes will be undertaken and briefly explain how these changes
support the priorities listed above. In particular, we are requesting
that departments briefly address these questions:
- Who
are the faculty from your department who will participate?
- How
does this proposal address the issue of technological fluency
within your discipline or on the campus broadly as a service
course?
- How
will your proposal improve student engagement in the classroom?
Faculty
training, along with ongoing support, is available through the
Faculty Development Center and OIT. Grants may be used to purchase
equipment or software, purchase instructional materials, provide
external training, hire student assistants for courses, or provide
a small stipend for faculty attending departmental training.
