Web/Portal Redesign Update

The offices of Information Technology and Institutional Advancement are collaborating to create a major redesign of UMBC's online presence beginning late this summer.

Sometime in August, a redesigned Web home page and a redesigned myUMBC portal will replace the current versions, and launch a year-long process of evaluating, testing, redesigning and adding to both our Web site and our portal (myUMBC.)

The new myUMBC will look much different from the current version and will feature a "start tab" with news for students and an emphasis on campus events.

The redesigned Web home page will feature more pictures of campus and new navigation based on the needs of various user groups (current students, prospective students, etc.)

The process is iterative and both UMBC's Web site and myUMBC will continue to change over the next year. The new look and feel set for this summer marks only the start of the process that will eventually bring more consistency to the Web site and more personalization to the portal.

This new layout is really awesome. I love it. It looks more contemporary and sleek. Too bad I'll be graduating after the summer... I won't be able to enjoy the new look when it is in production. :(

I can't find the 'Olde myUMBC' link anywhere. How am I supposed to use the site??

The pages look great! One suggestion, however. On the main page why not let the background be black instead of gray? It works with the school colors and I think it will make the page pop! a little more!

I relly like the new layout, it looks more professional as well as still stylish and taylored to a college campus. It also seems to be more easily navigatable and that is always a plus. Kudos to the designer.

I agree with Michael - in fact, I'd make the background on myUMBC black as well. The gray just looks...well....gray. And boring. But black would really be handsome.

Also, the gray used throughout is, in my opinion, a somewhat unfortunate choice. Perhaps there is a different color of gray that would work better, or maybe it would work with black or some other color instead. Granted, we don't want the site to look dark and foreboding, so perhaps replacing that gray with black isn't a good idea. But the gray we have chosen is wishy-washy.

The myUMBC portal looks great. The homepage is an improvement over the first redesign layout, however, I still think its not quite there. The images are good, but the layout of the bottom part doesn't look strong enough to me. (like visually, it can't hold the weight of all the images.)
