Updating UMBC RedHat Linux

Keeping your software updated is very important. Updates provide you with the latest patches for RedHat, including security fixes.

Special Considerations

The following packages need some special consideration when upgrading the kernel in UMBC RedHat:

Using up2date

RedHat provides a utility called up2date to install updates. Start up2date and follow the instructions. RedHat will require that you register with RedHat to use up2date.

Alternative to up2date

An alternative to up2date is autoupdate. There is only a command line interface for autoupdate, but autoupdate does not require that you connect to RedHat or register with RedHat. Follow the instructions here to install autoupdate.
