Mission Statement
-Primary mission is to promote extramural funding of research and scholarly activity

-Responsible for review, processing and sign off on all extramural grants and contracts in support of research and other scholarly activity at UMBC

-Administered within the Graduate School, under the Assistant Vice Provost for Research

-Provides direct assistance to faculty and departments in putting together proposals, negotiating contracts, interpreting policies, rules and restrictions, and in finding appropriate sources of funding

-Acts as a focal point for educating faculty on how most effectively to apply for grants

-Acts as the agent of the university in any negotiation with public or private sources of funding and acts as the liaison with the funding agency, affecting any needed changes for the life of the grant or contract

-Serves as the agent of information gathering on government and private policy and on events affecting the climate for extramural funding and the ability of UMBC to compete successfully for that funding
