Student Information

It is the responsibility of everyone who operates a motor vehicle on the campus to become familiar with the following information. These regulations have been established in order to expedite the safe and orderly conduct of University business and to provide parking facilities in support of this function.

Permits: A VALID UMBC PERMIT must be displayed on a vehicle parked in any non-metered space. Failure to display the permit or register the vehicle may result in the issuance of a violation. Permits are enforced year round. Information on obtaining a permit is listed under Faculty & Staff Information and Student Information. Refunds are not issued on parking permits.

Parking is assigned to parking zones with designated areas for each permit group. Zone designations apply Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the fall and spring semester. A modified zone plan is enforced during the winter and summer sessions. For additional information, click on Faculty & Staff Information or Student Information. The campus map link contains a color coded parking map. Parking signs designate the applicable zone by both color and letter.

Permit parking zones:

Zone A Red Commuter Students

Zone B Green Walker Community Residents

Zone C Gold Residential Students (excluding Walker Community Residents)

Zone D Purple Faculty and Staff (includes Daily Permits), also valid in Zone A after 3:30 p.m.

Zone E Purple Gated Faculty and Staff, also valid in Zone A after 3:30 p.m.

Zone F Orange Freshman Resident Students

Restrictions for resident freshmen are listed under student information.

Gated lots are restricted to faculty/staff with E permits and appropriate visor card from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Parking is available after 3:30 p.m. on weekdays and all day during weekends in Administration Drive Garage, Lot 2 and Lot 8 for a $.50 fee, quarters only. Parking Services will raise gates as necessary due to malfunctioning equipment; however E permits will still be enforced until 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Motorcycles and road approved motor scooters must be registered with Parking Services and display a valid UMBC decal.  Designated motorcycle parking spaces are available throughout the campus. A motorcycle may be parked in any motorcycle parking space with a valid UMBC decal. If parking a motorcycle in a regular parking space, your designated parking zone will be the same as allowed with your parking permit.  A maximum of two motorcycles/scooters are permitted in one parking space.  Decals are available at Parking Services.

Bicycles must be parked in bicycle pods or at bicycle racks. Bicycles chained to trees, buildings, poles, etc. may be confiscated by university police.
