Matt Basch

Matt Basch is starting his 4th year with the Down and Dirty Dawg Band. While he grew up in New Jersey, he has spent the last 15 years of his life in Columbia, MD. At age 4, Matthew started playing the piano. In 3rd grade, he picked up the trumpet, 7th grade, tuba, and percussion in 8th.

Matt Basch is a huge marching band geek. He played Sousaphone and Tenors (Freshman and Sophomore Year), and was Drum Major his junior and senior years. He graduated from River Hill High School in 2004.

Currently, he is an Information Systems and Music Education double major at UMBC. You'll see him playing drumset and trumpet in Pep Band. His favorite tunes are "Ease on Down the Road" and "Sing Sing Sing."

"When I started college, I was burnt out from the pressures of High School music. I swore that I was done with band. 4 years later, here I am! Joining the UMBC Pepband has made college an incredible experience, and has made me a better musician. The members of the pepband are amazing people. It is a privilege to play in this group."
