DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

Ethics Bowl:

The Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl is a nationally organized competition in which teams of students compete in performing moral evaluations of real-life cases. Students are judged on their factual grasp of the nuances of difficult cases, the clarity of their moral reasoning and on their ability to express the above. It thus combines public speaking, research and thoughtfulness in a challenging environment in the very best tradition of collegiate (and collegial) humanities. For further information contact Department Chair: Dr. Steve Yalowitz (yalowitz@umbc.edu)

Last Saturday, Nov. 10th, 2012, UMBC's Ethics Bowl team competed very successfully in the 17th Annual Mid Atlantic Regional Championship tournament. UMBC faced Georgetown in the final round, winning two of three ballots, but ultimately losing the round on points. Their second-place finish was strong enough, though, to earn UMBC a right to compete in the national championships for a third year in a row. This year the national tournament will be held in San Antonio, Texas, on February 28th.
