Crime Alert from the UMBC Police Department......

June 11, 2008

An arrest warrant has been issued for the below person. The warrant is held by the UMBC Police Department. If this person is seen in your area take no action of your own, and call the UMBC Police Department 410.455.5555 / 410.455.3136  

Christopher Aaron Butler, B/M, 6’4”, 200 lbs., DOB 12-25-1983

May operate these vehicles: 2006 Nissan 2dr, MD Plate 2BJ A47 or 1997 Acura, MD Plate MTG 593

The defendant is alleged responsible for several lockers being broken into by force at the UMBC RAC Center, with the defendant making use of stolen credit cards taken from wallets within the lockers.  Other jurisdictions are asked to review any similar reports for comparison.

UMBC Police request your assistance in preventing continued thefts of vehicle parts and accessories. The UMBC Police Department advises all community members to be alert for individuals working underneath any parked vehicle in any parking lot or along any roadway as there has been an increased number of thefts in the region of vehicle parts and accessories, to include parts from the undercarriage of parked vehicles. Offender method of operating identified in recent cases has included crawling under a vehicle and using a saw to cut through the exhaust pipes of the vehicle to remove the catalytic converter. A perpetrator of this type of offense may appear as an innocent motorist working on a disabled motor vehicle. These offenses have been reported to occur at all hours of the day and night.

The UMBC Police Department is asking your help by calling the UMBC Police Communications Center at 410-455-5555 to report any individual who appears to be working on a parked vehicle, particularly under the vehicle.

Crime Alert from the UMBC Police Department......

May 21, 2008

UMBC Police responded to a call for a reported armed robbery at the Patuxent Apartments this morning at approximately 12:19 AM. The suspects entered the apartment through an unlocked door. Three of the students were in the living room of the apartment when the suspects entered. The other student was in her bedroom. The suspects openly displayed weapons, one a knife and one a handgun, threatened the students by pointing their weapons in a threatening manner. At this point the suspects demanded money and cellular telephones from the students. They fled the apartment with an undetermined amount of money and cellular telephones.

The suspects are described as follows.

 #1 Suspect Black Male, 18 to 25 Years of Age 6'-02" Height Thin Build Brown Eyes Medium Complexion Last Seen Wearing: Black Hoodie, Dark Pants, Black Bandana over his face. Armed with a handgun.

#2 Suspect Asian Male, 18 to 25 Years of Age 6'-02" Height Thin Build Brown Eyes Medium Complexion Last Seen Wearing: Black Hoodie, Dark Pants, Black Bandana over his face. Armed with a knife.

Baltimore County Police are handling the investigation, with UMBC Police assisting.

Remember: Keep room doors and suite doors locked at all time and do not open your door unless you can identify the person seeking entrance.

Please be on the lookout for and report suspicious people looking at or going though backpacks in open areas of building. 

DO NOT LEAVE BACKPACKS UNATTENDED

SURVEYS TAKEN BY THE UMBC POLICE DEPARTMENT HAVE DISCOVERED THAT BACKPACKS ARE BEING LEFT UNATTENDED IN PUBLIC AREAS FOR PERIODS OF TIME UP TO 20 MINUTES WHILE THEIR OWNERS ARE DOING OTHER THINGS.  IF YOU DO THIS YOU ARE JUST INVITING A CRIME TO OCCUR.
