Roy Meyers
gave an invited talk in Beijing, China in October on the prospects
for a sustainable U.S. budget. He also made the following presentations
this fall: on Federal Budget Challenges, for Congressional staff
with the sponsorship of the Mercatus Institute; on What Academics
Can Teach Practitioners About Budgeting, to the Eastern States Legislative
Fiscal Officers meeting in Annapolis; on Maryland's budget to the
Legacy Leadership Institute; and on the process of setting budget
priorities to the Association for Budgeting and Financial Management.
Roy Meyers
wrote an op-ed published in the Baltimore Sun (linked below) which
argues that Maryland should better educate citizens
about its budget, in order to protect vital services from undesirable
cuts.

Roy Meyers made two presentations to the Peterson-Pew Commission
on Federal Budget Reform in January and April. His article
"The 'Ball of Confusion' in Federal Budgeting: A Shadow Agenda for
Deliberative Reform of the Budget Process," was published in the
March 2009 issue of Public Administration Review. He also
had an op-ed on earmarks and the appropriations process published
in
Roll Call, March 24, 2009.
Nicholas
Miller presented a paper (with Joseph Godfrey) “On the Size
and Location of the Yolk in Spatial Voting Games: Results
Using Cybersenate Software” at the Annual Meeting of the Public
Choice Society in Las Vegas, March 5-8 and also to the Harvard-MIT
