The Linehan Artist Scholars Program

1. Robert and Jane Meyerhoff continue to support the Meyerhoff Scholarship Program and UMBC, including endowing The Robert and Jane Meyerhoff Chair in Biochemistry. Since making their first $500,000 gift to the University in 1988, the Meyerhoffs’ contributions to UMBC are approaching $5 million.

2. The Linehan Artist Scholars Program
for high-achieving students in visual
and performing arts is supported by
a generous gift from Earl and
Darielle Linehan.

3. The late James Dresher, Sr. and his family have established The Dresher Family Scholarships for students from Harford County, Maryland.

4. The France-Merrick Scholars Program to Support Community Service is funded with the generous support of Baltimore’s France-Merrick Foundation.

5. The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, the largest construction firm in Baltimore, and Willard Hackerman, the company’s president for almost 50 years, established UMBC’s first endowed chair, The Willard and Lillian Hackerman Chair in Engineering.

6. The Robert W. Deutsch Foundation
provides support for a number of
initiatives in computer science and information technology. Dr. Robert W. Deutsch also chose bwtech@UMBC, the University’s research park, as headquarters for his company’s Applied Technology Laboratory.

7. Established through a gift from the Baltimore investment-banking firm, The Alex. Brown Center for Science and Technology Entrepreneurship provides programs and opportunities to stimulate entrepreneurial activity in the region.

8. Continuing support from The Erickson Foundation has enabled UMBC to add new residence halls at the rate of one per year, significantly increasing the on-campus student population. Nearly 75 percent of UMBC’s first-year students now live on campus.

9. Funding from the Jacob and Hilda Blaustein Foundation supports The Sondheim Public Affairs Scholars Program at UMBC, merit scholarships for talented undergraduates interested in careers in government and politics or the nonprofit sector.

10. Constellation Energy Group, a
Baltimore-based Fortune 500 company, established an endowment to create the Constellation Professorship in Information Technology and Engineering. In addition, funding from BGE (Baltimore Gas & Electric), the company’s energy delivery affiliate, supports undergraduate scholarships.
