Ms. Christy Roelke currently serves as UMBC’s Health Professions Advising Coordinator and Chairperson of the Health Professions Evaluation Committee. She has been with UMBC since 2007 and has over fifteen years of higher education experience. In her role as UMBC’s chief health professions advisor, Ms. Roelke helps students make wise decisions about their professional school and healthcare career pursuits. Prior to her tenure at UMBC, Ms. Roelke was the Director of Career Services at a Penn State University campus and before her five years at Penn State, held several positions at the University of Maryland, College Park, serving as their Allied Health Advisor, member of the UMCP PreMedical Committee, and as the Career Center Program Director for the Colleges of Computer, Math, and Physical Sciences; Engineering; and Agriculture.
A former healthcare professional for several years, Ms. Roelke was a Registered Dietitian (RD) and Clinical Nutritionist for a sub-acute rehab center, hospital, and nursing home. She completed her clinical training in the Boston area at such institutions as Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The culmination of Ms. Roelke’s past history in academic advising, career counseling, and healthcare brings a unique and powerful blend of experiences to the PreMedical and PreDental Advising Office. Ms. Roelke’s primary focus is helping students become the most competitive professional school applicants they can be. Having been a career changer early in life and given the extremely competitive nature of professional schools, Ms. Roelke is also deeply passionate about helping students prepare themselves for multiple career plans and encouraging students to match their strengths, abilities, interests, and values to their future career choices.
Ms. Roelke earned a B.S. in Dietetics and a M.A. in Higher Education Counseling and Administration. She is an active member of both the National Association of Advisors in the Health Professions (NAAHP) and the Northeast Association of Advisors in the Health Professions (NEAAHP), and holds Myers-Briggs Type Indicator certification.
