Thesis ABSTRACT
Spirituality and community at the helping up mission
by Rounsaville, D., M.A., University of Maryland Baltimore County, 2008
This study examined the relations between sense of community, spirituality and time spent in treatment at the Helping Up Mission (HUM), a Christian modified therapeutic community. This study investigated the relation between scores on the Sense of Community Index (SCI), Spiritual Well Being Scale (SWBS), and the number of days spent in the program. Further, it examined whether change in SCI scores mediates the effect of SWBS scores on days in treatment with a population of homeless substance abusing men. The hypothesized relations between sense of community, spirituality and time spent in treatment were not supported.
