Background and Research Interests

The Beatty Lab investigates psychological and social correlates of racial/ethnic disparities in cardiovascular disease risk. Dr. Beatty is primarily interested in unfair treatment overall and due specifically to race/ethnic discrimination that unfolds in day-to-day social interactions. The bulk of this work has also examined social factors, primarily socioeconomic status and individual characteristics, e.g., trait anger, as related to unfair treatment, race/ethnicity, and cardiovascular disease risk. Dr. Beatty’s research draws on traditional self-report as well as ecological momentary methodologies.
