  • Adia Garrett and Jean Montgomery (with Linda Baker) - -- Evaluating the effectiveness of a response to intervention (RTI) approach to prevention of reading disabilities in the Baltimore City Public School System.
  • Manica Ramos and Joy Thompson (with Susan Sonnenschein, Linda Baker) - - Evaluating the impact of the Preschool Core Curriculum with African American and Hispanic Baltimore Head Start students. This longitudinal project includes working with parents to explore the types of reading and math activities children engage in at home and parents’ beliefs about their role in their children’s learning.
  • Amy Benson (with Susan Sonnenschein, Laura Stapleton) - -Using a national data set (ECLS-K cohort) to examine factors related to children’s reading and math development.
  • Christy Leung, Andrew Yu, and Sevgi Bayram Ozdemir (with Charissa Cheah) - - This project focuses on Chinese, and Korean immigrant families with 3-5 year old children. The parents' adaptation, well-being and acculturation, and their culturally-specific parenting beliefs and practices are examined, in relation to their preschool children's social emotional development, social skills, and transition into American society.
  • Kelly Sheperd and Madiha Tahseen (with Charissa Cheah) - - This project examines the development of adolescent parents and their infants, specifically, the adolescents' transition into adulthood and their parenting behaviors, their relationships and social support networks, and the interactive role of child characteristics, in predicting their child's developmental outcomes.
  • Kathy Bohner and Archana Ambike (with David Schultz) - - Working on the Heart & Mind Study, a project examining influences upon disruptive behavior in preschool: family, neighborhood, children's thinking patterns, and children's physiological arousal patterns.  Among other responsibilities, Kathy supervises behavioral observations of children in their classrooms, and Archana supervises assessments of children in their preschool centers.
