Biopsychology

(Current) Concentration in Biopsychology Checklist (Revised 2005)

Students who matriculate to UMBC in September 2006 or later must follow these requirements. 

(This concentration was revised in 2005 to provide a broader, more in depth concentration in Biopsychology. Students who matriculated prior to September 2006 may choose to follow the requirements on the reverse from their earlier catalogue year or switch to the updated requirements below.) 

Students who complete the concentration in Biopsychology are presented with a certificate recognizing their achievement. In order to obtain this certificate, you must complete this form. In order to fulfill a concentration, students must complete ALL of the requirements for the BA or BS degree in Psychology, in addition to the concentration requirements. Courses used to fulfill a concentration can also be used towards degree requirements. PSYC 335 must be taken from Group I and at least one PSYC 400 must be taken.

Biology Core Requirements (ALL of the following):

BIOL 100 (Concepts of Biology)
BIOL 100L (Concepts of Biology Lab)
BIOL 301 (Ecology and Evolution)
BIOL 302 (Molecular and General Genetics)

Upper Level PSYC Electives:

PSYC 4xx
3xx or 4xx
3xx or 4xx

One Upper Level Elective must be from the following: PSYC 355, PSYC 356, PSYC 375, PSYC 385, PSYC 390, PSYC 435, PSYC 448, PSYC 450, PSYC 463, PSYC 470, PSYC 490, PSYC 498H, PSYC 499H (honors with advisor approval)

One of the following may be used in place of a 300 level Psychology elective (but not from the list above): BIOL 303, BIOL 305, BIOL 442, BIOL 451, BIOL 453, BIOL 454, BIOL 466.
