Scheduling
Academic Schedule
of Classes
The Fall and Spring semester schedules of classes are
developed by the Office of the Registrar in consultation
with academic departments. Summer and winter session
schedules are developed, also in consultation with academic
departments, by the Office of Summer and Winter Programs.
Fall and Spring Semester schedules
are developed according to guidelines established by
the Classroom Committee. These guidelines include standard
time blocks into which courses are to be scheduled.
More information about these guidelines is available
at http://www.umbc.edu/registrar/F05NewMeetingTimes.html.
The Fall Semester schedule of classes
is developed beginning in late January through early
March. The Spring Semester schedule of classes is developed
beginning in late August through October. The Schedule
of Classes for Fall semesters is published online
in early April. Spring semester schedules are published
in early November.
Summer and Winter schedules are also
available via the Schedule
of Classes.
A designated faculty or staff member
serves as the scheduling coordinator for each academic
department. This individual consults with (or in some
cases may also serve as) the department chair and is
the point person for development and modifications to
the schedule of classes.
Faculty who wish to inquire about
changes to a course they are offering, including times
or locations, should consult their scheduling coordinator.
Scheduling coordinators should send
inquiries about schedule changes to Academic Services
at schedregoffice@umbc.edu.
Final Examinations
The Office of the Registrar, in consultation with
the Office of the Provost, is responsible for scheduling
all final exams for fall and spring semester courses.
Once established, the exam schedules for current and
upcoming fall and spring semesters are available online
at http://www.umbc.edu/AboutUMBC/Schedule.
For information regarding final exam policies, including
guidelines for scheduling common examinations, visit
the Final
Examination Policies page(Section 14.6).
Event Scheduling
All non-academic events are scheduled through the Campus
Scheduling and Guest Services Office. Academic events
held during the Fall and Spring semesters are scheduled
through the Office of the Registrar. Academic events
are defined as meetings which are associated with a
particular course, but which are scheduled outside of
the regular class meeting time. Examples include special
discussion sessions, exam reviews, or make-up exams.
Those interested in scheduling academic
events should contact the Office of the Registrar at schedregoffice@umbc.edu.
