FAFSA APPLICATION
AND AWARDING PROCEDURES
Students who wish to be considered for maximum eligibility
of need-based aid must submit their Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online listing UMBC's
Federal School Code, 002105. The priority application
deadline is February 14 for the next academic year.
The link to the FAFSA application is available through
the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships website
at www.umbc.edu/financialaid.
Upon receipt of the FAFSA results, an estimated financial
aid package for the upcoming year is e-mailed to students
via their myUMBC account. Students who wish to apply
for a federal Stafford Loan or parents who wish to apply
for a federal PLUS Loan may do so also via our website
at www.umbc.edu/financialaid. Simply click on “Apply
here for a loan online” and follow the application instructions
using our preferred lenders. Our office’s priority filing
date is June 30.
TIMELY PROCESSING
OF APPLICATIONS
UMBC's Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships processes
aid based on the FAFSA application and registration
criteria. Students who wish to benefit from priority
processing should submit a valid FAFSA by February 14
each year and register during UMBC's "advanced registration"
period each semester. In addition, all electronic loan
applications should be submitted online by the priority
processing deadline of June 30. Students who complete
the financial aid process after these recommended deadlines
will be processed in the order in which the applications
are received.
ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS
Many financial aid programs award students based on
the assumption of full-time enrollment. Students who
plan to enroll less than full-time should provide written
notification to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships
via the “Written Request Form” located on our website
at www.umbc.edu/financialaid
under the “Forms” section.
Financial aid awards are finalized based on enrollment
status as of the last day of late registration. This
includes independent study and internship credits. Students
who are considering a withdrawal from the university
or dropping classes should consult with a financial
aid counselor to discuss the impact on financial aid.
Classes added after the last day of the add/drop period
are not considered in the final enrollment status for
financial aid.
Audited courses are not considered in the credit count
toward enrollment status, and cannot be considered for
financial aid.
SATISFACTORY
ACADEMIC PROGRESS STANDARDS
In order to receive Federal Title IV Financial Aid,
students are required to maintain satisfactory academic
progress toward the degree for which they are enrolled.
UMBC's requirements conform to federal regulations.

WITHDRAWAL FROM
CLASSES

at the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
VETERANS AFFAIRS
A student planning to apply for veterans benefits should
contact the Veterans Affairs Office located within the
UMBC Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Our VA
counselor will be happy to assist students with any
