Environmental Health and Biosafety
Biosafety is defined as a complete program of administrative controls, medical surveillance, vaccination, and containment strategies for reducing the risk of disease to employees facing potential occupational exposure to infectious agents or other biologically derived molecules. (AIHA Biosafety Reference Manual, 2nd Edition, 1995)
HARPO works with investigators and the UMBC environmental health and safety staff in the area of biosafety by documenting projects, providing information and guidance about working in a safe research environment and facilitating compliance with human and animal federal, state and university guidelines and regulations.
