Welcome to the UMBC Institutional Review Board (IRB) web site. The UMBC IRB was established to perform ethical review of research involving human participants in order to ensure their rights are protected and that they are safeguarded from risk and harm. The purpose of this site is to provide information about the university’s human research protection program while facilitating access to regulations, policies, procedures, and forms related to research involving human participants.

The IRB follows many governmental and institutional human participant use regulations and policies. Please continue to this page to learn more.

The IRB has also created the Researcher’s Guide, the UMBC investigator’s manual for conducting human research. Click any of the below quick links to access to specific sections of the Guide or click here to view the entire Guide.

Moveover, investigators may find all forms and applications used by the IRB on this page.
