Housing Offers (Priority consideration)
Eligible returning residents who meet the March 31st deadline and incoming freshmen who meet the May 1st deadline are guaranteed on-campus housing for the upcoming academic year. Housing offers will be made to transfers, displaced students and commuters as they become available based on the following factors:
- Distance from campus: Students living the furthest away will receive first consideration. Distance is categorized into the following four categories:
- A (0-8 miles), B (9-25 miles), C (26-50 miles) and D (51 + miles)
- Entry Status: New students (first-term freshmen and transfers) receive first consideration followed by displaced students then commuters. The last group will be current residents who missed the March 31st deadline.
- Application Date: Within a given Distance and Class Standing we will look at application date to determine prioirty consideration.
- Priority for On-Campus Housing 2009-2010:
- New Freshmen
- Incoming Transfer students distance C/D
- Incoming Transfer students distance A/B
- Commuter students distance C/D
- Commuter students distance A/B

We are reviewing distance D male students only at this time for space in our overflow housing. There are approximately 256 students on the waiting list at this time. Cancellations of housing assignments are slowing down. We will continue to offer housing spaces based on availability through the first week of classes.
Things you can do if you are on the Waiting List:
- Make sure your campus housing application has the most up-to-date data for you
- Make sure you are checking your UMBC email account regularly
- Make sure your contact information is updated in my UMBC so that if we mail communication to you it will be received
Off-campus housing
There are many apartment communities in the area that are served by the UMBC transit system. Students on the wait list, especially those in the lower consideration categories, are urged to contact UMBC Off-Campus Student Services. They can assist you in finding suitable housing near campus.
We want to assure you that the staff of Residential Life and Off-Campus Student Services will work with you to help you manage this process as you prepare for the upcoming academic year.
Check back for additional information regarding upcoming events that will assist students in finding housing off-campus and or roommates.
