Room Changes at UMBC

ROOM SWAP
Currently the only way to move to another room is by doing a “Room Swap”. A “Room Swap” is when you and another resident mutually agree to switch rooms. To request a “Room Swap” you must do the following:
-
Step 1: Meet with your community director to discuss why you would like to request a “Room Swap”.
Step 2: If your community director approves, he/she will hand you a “Room Change Form” and instruct you to obtain the appropriate signatures in the appropriate order.
-
Step 3: Residential Operations staff will provide the final signature/approval and give you your new key authorization and your move date.
ROOM CHANGE TO A VACANT SPACE
If you are seeking a vacant room in the residential system, all vacancies are currently on hold until Residential Operations staff have been able to offer permanent spaces to students living in temporary assignments. We hope to have made most of those changes by early October. You may continue to check the web site for updates.
ROOMMATE CONFLICTS
If you are having a conflict with a roommate, suitemate or apartment-mate you will need to work with your Resident Assistant to mediate the situation. Sometimes this can be as simple as clarifying an issue on the Roommate Agreement that you and your roommate(s) signed. If all else fails, your Resident Assistant may refer you and your roommate(s) to your Community Director for further discussion. If after working with you and your roommate(s) the Community Director still recommends a move, he/she will work with Residential Operations staff to make a change that will benefit all parties.
