Relief-Related Programs

• Paws for a Cause.  SEB, Student Life and The Commons are spearheading a campaign to have people contribute money for hurricane relief and to show their support by putting their names put on a PAW to be displayed on The Commons windows. This campaign will also be marketed to the Arbutus and Catonsville communities. Obtain PAWS at the Campus Information Center (Lobby), The Gameroom and the Student Life Suite (2nd floor) of The Commons.

• Hurricane Relief Concert Series - October 6.  UMBC Musicians for World Peace presents a fall jazz concert and pub night, featuring Adelaide Ruble and introducing the Musicians for World Peace Ensemble. 4:30-7 p.m. Buffet, activities. Free admission & donations appreciated, all to benefit Katrina rebuilding efforts. Co-sponsors: Flat Tuesdays, Transfer Student Network, Off Campus & Transfer Student Services, Office of Student Life. Pub level, 21 years of age or older. (See flier in frame at left.)

• Walk/Run the Loop for A Cause - Saturday, October 8.  The Office of Student Life, with SGA and GSA, presents the more athletic community members an opportunity to participate in relief efforts. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at Flag Plaza, Administration Drive. Action walks/runs from 9 - noon. Lump sum and per lap donations may be made prior to beginning. Those collecting by the lap are encouraged to estimate the numbers of laps they will survive - ah, make - and submit the money in advance. Those who donate $10 or more will be admitted to the following Carnival for A Cause free of charge. Sponsor forms can be obtained in The Commons room 336, from the SEB website - http://sta.umbc.edu/orgs/seb/  or by email request to hood2@umbc.edu.

• The Katrina Relief Fall Men's Lacrosse Classic - October 15.  Coach Don Zimmerman has recruited Delaware, Georgetown and Princeton to join UMBC in this unique tourney that promises great competition. All-day pass will be $10; children 6 and under will be admitted free. Don't miss the excitement! UMBC v. Delaware - 10 a.m., Delaware v. Princeton - noon, Princeton v. Georgetown - 2 p.m., Georgetown v. UMBC - 4 p.m.

• Chess Club Contributes.  Members of UMBC's Chess Club will host a chess tournament and invite any campus member to play by making a contribution to the Katrina fund.  Please look for Chess Club players on Main Street in The Commons.

Campus Communication

Campus Discussion Board (UMBC login required) - This site is available to UMBC users on the "Community" tab inside the UMBC Blackboard course management system.

Expression Boards and Educational Posters. Student Affairs, The Commons and Student Life will be placing educational posters about Katrina throughout The Commons.  Also, Expression Boards will be placed on Main Street to help community members express their reactions to this tragedy.
